Tasty n Sons is a neighborhood restaurant in North Portland, Oregon by restaurateur chef John Gorham serving inventive ‘new American diner’ cuisine. The sprawling, family-style menu features innovative dishes with diverse origins from the east coast and inspired by Chef Gorham’s travels and experiences with the vital immigrant community working in the restaurant industry whose own cultural traditions have helped re-shape American cuisine as a global collaboration of flavors. Tasty n Sons is also Portland’s go-to brunch spot, putting a Pacific Northwest twist on international breakfast fare. The beverage program boasts adventurous house ‘Tasty Cocktails’, an approachable wine and beer list, and a variety of unique aperitifs and digestifs. In Tasty n Sons’ welcoming open dining space that is both industrial and comfortable, a guest’s experience can be as versatile as the menu itself with seating at the lively bar, the active open-kitchen counter, seats overlooking bustling North Williams St., or at a classic dining table.
John Gorham is Co-Owner and Executive Chef of iconic Portland restaurants Toro Bravo, Tasty n Sons, Tasty n Alder, Mediterranean Exploration Company, Shalom Y'all, and PLAZA DEL TORO, a gastronomic society / event space. Gorham believes that a chef’s cuisine and style is influenced by a trade route composed of travels, past work, cities lived in, and foods that their family made growing up. A ‘chef of the people’, Gorham celebrates a range of global cuisines at his influential restaurants; each with a unique identity but all embodying the quintessential Portland dining experience of family-style dishes, house-made charcuterie and seasonal sustainably-sourced ingredients.
A proud native Oregonian, Erin has been curious about food from a very young age. She learned to garden and preserve foods, to catch crabs and clams, to pick the mushrooms and berries of the Pacific NW. She has explored many different international cuisines and ingredients thru both travel and cooking, and continues to reach and learn and try new things. With 14 years in the industry, Erin thrives on the pace and energy of the restaurant. The enjoyment she finds in cooking for others, as well as honoring the ingredients used are daily reminders of her love for the kitchen.
Marcus arrived in Portland in 2014 bringing with him a deep history and heritage of southern food and cooking. Marcus is classically trained graduating from culinary school, but draws his inspiration from past memories, travels, and experiences. Upon arriving he immediately knew that Tasty n Sons was the place he wanted to be.
Influenced from early on by his mother, Marcus remembers sitting in the kitchen with her picking beans, peeling carrots, and cleaning collards. He believes food is a bridge that brings people together. At its best he says, a great dish can make you time travel back to childhood and your grandmother's kitchen.
